DETROIT, Mich. – The Golden Eagle bench came up with 28 points, led by
Shaina DenBesten's eight and
Alyssa Van Ham's six to earn a 66-57 road victory against Marygrove College. Cornerstone has now won their second game in a row to move back above .500 with an 11-10 overall record and improving to 8-5 in conference play. Next on the schedule for CU is a home game vs. No. 20 Indiana Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Game Flow
The Golden Eagles got off to a bit of a slow start shooting in the first quarter only scoring 15 points, but the defense gave them the lead, as they held the Mustangs to just 13 in the period. Cornerstone started the second quarter in a similar fashion while the Marygrove offense started to pick up, giving MG a six-point lead with 7:09 left in the period. A 12-5 run powered by five points each from
Jesse Sheridan and
Cass Vredevoogd cut the CU deficit to one at the break.
The third quarter is where the Golden Eagle offense found its rhythm, outscoring MG 26-13 to give them a 52-40 lead. Cornerstone got the lead all the way up to 19 at one point with six straight from
Shaina DenBesten to start the fourth quarter, but Marygrove came back to cut it to just five with 45 seconds to play. CU was able to hold the Mustangs off down the stretch though, earning a 66-57 victory.
By the Numbers
20.7% – Cornerstone shot 31.0% in the first half and 51.7% in the second half for a 20.7% improvement between halves.
11/5 – Marygrove did most of their damage from the three-point line going 11-32, while Cornerstone shot 5-11 from deep.
28-0 – CU had 28 bench points while MG had zero off the bench.

Jesse Sheridan led the Golden Eagles in scoring for the fifth straight game with 19 points tonight.
20 – The Golden Eagles outrebounded The Mustangs 40-20 in the game for a 20 point edge on the boards.
