GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Two different Golden Eagles hit major milestones on Saturday afternoon as the No. 18 ranked team in the country posted wins over Grace (Ind.) and Cumberlands (Ky.) at the ACC Tourney. The two wins lift Cornerstone to 20-6 on the year as
Hope Leppink surpassed 1,000 career digs and
Heather Carlson went over the 1,000 kill mark. CU will resume play Wednesday at home against rival Aquinas.
Match 1 – #18 Cornerstone 3, Grace 2 (25-15, 25-18, 24-26, 21-25, 15-4)
Cornerstone cruised to a pair of wins in the opening two sets and held a 21-18 lead in the third set only to see the Lancers come back to win 26-24 and then 25-21 to take the match the distance. CU used a big run after being up 4-3 to blow out Grace in the fifth.
Kendra Zwart had a huge match in which she posted 23 kills to go along with a pair of blocks.
Ellie Van Laar had 17 kills to go along with a team-best eight blocks.
Hope Leppink handed out 54 assists while
Mackenzie Vallad had 23 digs.
Match 2 – #18 Cornerstone 3, Cumberlands 0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-21)
Cornerstone finished out their perfect weekend with a sweep of the Patriots as they used a dominant offensive attack (52 kills on a .362 hitting percentage to win 25-22, 25-16, 25-21.
Van Laar was unstoppable in the middle with 20 kills while Zwart finished with 17 and
Heather Carlson eight. Leppink had 48 assists while Vallad had 21 digs.

Cornerstone will finish the year with the remainder of the schedule featuring all WHAC competition, beginning Wednesday at home against Aquinas at 7 p.m. It is 80's night.
