GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –
Kendra Zwart posted a career-high 24 kills while hitting at a .639 clip as she led the No. 18 ranked Golden Eagles to a 4-set win over rival Aquinas College. The victory is the eighth in a row for CU as they now stand at 21-6 overall and 10-1 in the WHAC. Cornerstone will travel to Lawrence Tech on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match against the Blue Devils.
Match Flow…
Aquinas came out on fire offensively in the opening set and used a big run midway through to build a 6-point lead only to see the Golden Eagles come roaring back to tie it at 22. CU would go on to take the 24-23 lead but three straight AQ points gave them the opener 26-24.
Set two was dominated by Cornerstone early as the Golden Eagles raced out to a 9-2 lead but it was Aquinas who fought back this time to tie it up at 16 all. CU then got big swings from Zwart and
Madison Herrema as they posted the 25-22 win and that gave them all the momentum.
CU controlled the play from there on in as they posted 25-17 and 25-13 wins in the remaining two sets to close out their sixth straight win in the rivalry.
