GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles took on the Aquinas Saints on Wednesday afternoon. Cornerstone tallied 17 shots before
Joshua Busscher found the back of the net in the 88
th minute. The comeback attempt fell short as the Saints held on for a 2-1 victory. The Golden Eagles drop to 4-8-3 overall, 3-5-2 in the WHAC. Cornerstone will end their season with a crucial match against UM-Dearborn on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
Game Flow
The Saints got on the board less than two minutes into the match. Cornerstone went into halftime down 1-0, but they held a 9-4 advantage on shots and a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks. A goal in the 62
nd minute gave Aquinas a 2-0 lead. The Golden Eagles continued to fight back, earning a goal in the 88
th minute when
Joshua Busscher scored off a header. Cornerstone took six shot attempts and three corner kicks in the final three minutes but were unable to even the score.

With CU's 2-1 loss to Aquinas, and victories by Concordia and Siena Heights, the Golden Eagles fall to 9
th in the WHAC standings. In order to make the eight team WHAC Tournament, Cornerstone must win against UM-Dearborn on Friday night, as well as a loss from either Siena Heights or Concordia on Saturday. Action vs. UM-Dearborn will kick off at 7:00 p.m.
Friday Night Festivities
Friday night's match against UM-Dearborn will be the annual Night of Nets match as well as senior night for Cornerstone's nine senior athletes.
