GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 18 ranked Cornerstone Volleyball team overcame a 25-22 opening set loss to pull out a tight 4-set win over #RV Siena Heights on Friday night inside Mol Arena. The 22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-18 win is the 11
th in a row for the Golden Eagles as they improve to 24-6 overall and 13-1 in the WHAC. CU will close out the regular season on Wednesday when they host Concordia at 7 p.m.
Match Flow…
The opening set saw the Saints put together a couple of late spurts (3-0 and 3-2) to close out the Golden Eagles 25-22. Cu had seven hitting errors in the opening set as the SHU defense put up four blocks as well. The second set saw Cornerstone come out strong and hold a 13-6 lead but the Saints rallied to score 12 of the next 14 points to hold an 18-15 lead. CU would come back strong from that run led by
Heather Carlson as the Golden Eagles outlasted the Saints 25-23.
Set three was a back and forth affair but it looked as if the visiting Saints would close out the Golden Eagles as they held a 23-21 only to see CU score the final four points including a roll over kick from
Jackie Stanko to finish off the comeback. The Golden Eagles then firmly controlled the fourth set as they won 25-18.
Notes…
- Heather Carlson led CU with a career-high 23 kills to go along with 21 digs
- Bailey Cummings came off the bench to post 12 kills
- Hope Leppink had 51 assists and a career-high 22 digs
- Mackenzie Vallad continued her outstanding play with 23 digs
- CU hit just .164 in the match which included 30 hitting errors

Cornerstone will close out the regular season at home with a 7 p.m. match on Wednesday, November 1 against Concordia University (Mich.).
