ADRIAN, Mich. –
Sam Vander Sluis posted 29 points and 15 rebounds while fellow big man
Kyle Steigenga went for 18 points and nine rebounds as the inside duo lifted the No. 1 ranked men's basketball team to an 84-63 road win at Siena Heights. The victory is the sixth in a row for Cornerstone as they improve to 6-2 on the year and 2-0 in the WHAC. CU will now prep for the annual Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic, hosted by Aquinas as they will take on Hope College on Friday at 6 p.m. and Calvin on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Game Flow
Vander Sluis and Steigenga opened the game with two consecutive buckets and it was a sign of things to come as CU built an eight-point lead midway through the half but the Saints closed the opening twenty minutes down by just four at 36-32.
The early going of the second half was much of the same back and forth affair but CU used a 15-3 spurt to open a 15 point lead after a 3-pointer from
Christian Rodriguez and offensive put-back by
Sam Vander Sluis. The lead continued to grow to as many as 23 with just under five minutes to play with the final tally being 84-63.
Say What?
