Women’s Hoops falls 71-66 to Huntington in WHAC/CL Classic Opener

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Golden Eagles drop their third straight, 71-66 at Huntington to open the WHAC/CL Classic. In a defensive battle Cornerstone stayed within striking distance, but could not get a lead as they fell to Crossroads League foe Huntington University. CU now moves to 0-3 on the year, as they will pick up action tomorrow at No. 21 Saint Francis to conclude the WHAC/CL Classic.

Game Flow
Neither team shot the ball well in the first half, as CU was just 10-31 from the field and HU was 14-35. Cornerstone played the home Foresters tight, but trailed much of the half taking a 32-26 deficit into halftime.

Huntington would build their lead to a 11 points to start the third quarter, but once again Cornerstone would battle back cutting it to just four behind five points from Jesse Sheridan. HU would then close the quarter on a 6-1 run to take a nine-point lead into the fourth quarter. Both offenses finally perked up in the final period, but the Foresters had a response for every run by the Golden Eagles down the stretch. Huntington was able to get their lead up to a game high 12 points in the fourth, leading to a 71-66 win over CU.

By the Numbers
3 – Jesse Sheridan scored 20 points, giving her 20+ performances in each of the first three games.

Say What….?
