LIVONIA, Mich. – In a game that was dominated by defenses in the first three quarters, Madonna was able to score 30 points in the fourth to pull away from the Golden Eagles and win 75-66. With the loss, CU drops their second straight conference game to move to 5-8, 3-3 WHAC on the year. Cornerstone will take a short break for exams before playing Grace Bible College for the second time this season and Lawrence Tech on back-to-back days next weekend.
Game Flow
Defense was dominant throughout the first half, as the Golden Eagles could not find their shot shooting just 35.3% from the field. Despite the low percentage, nine offensive rebounds and 16 points in the paint helped the Golden Eagles maintain a lead throughout much of the half.
Cass Vredevoogd dominated the paint offensively with 11 first half points, while
Shaina DenBesten tallied a Cornerstone first half high six rebounds to give CU a 29-26 lead at the break.
The Crusaders came out in the second half and saw a 5-0 run and a 6-0 run early that helped them regain a lead at 39-33. Madonna then maintained that lead at the end of the period, 45-40. Both offenses then irrupted in the fourth quarter, as each team scored 25+ points in the final period. In the end, Becca Sabol and the Madonna Crusaders had an answer for every Cornerstone bucket to result in a 75-66 loss for the Golden Eagles.
