GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone was finally able to return to conference action, as they took on Aquinas Thursday night and fell 4-3 on an AQ walk-off in the bottom of the 10
th inning. CU has now lost four in a row dating back to their spring trip to Florida making their record 8-17, 3-6 WHAC. The Golden Eagles will continue action tomorrow with a double-header at Aquinas starting at 1 p.m.
Game 1 – Aquinas got off to a fast start vs. starting pitcher
Kyle Herrick and the Golden Eagles, scoring twice in the first on a two run homerun. CU responded in the third when
Chris O'Neill Jr. hit a sacrifice fly to score
Jon Stewart, followed by a
Jarod Burton two run bomb that gave the Golden Eagles the 3-2 lead.
Kyle Herrick was dominant after the first inning homerun, going 6.0 innings with five strikeouts. Aquinas did get a run in the fifth inning to tie the game, scoring a runner that got on off of an error to tie the game at 3-3.
Brett Shure came in to pitch and was able to hold the 3-3 score for three innings, but Aquinas finally was able to break the scoring drought in the 10
th inning with a bases loaded walk-off single to win 4-3.
