LAKE MYRTLE, Fla. – The Golden Eagles dropped their third and fourth straight today in Lake Myrtle, Florida, as Trinity Christian defeated CU 6-4 and 7-3 in a double-header. Cornerstone is now 7-13 on the year and they will take a day off before continuing play in Florida on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. vs. Saint Xavier.
Game 1 – Trinity got the first run of the day on an RBI single, but CU responded right away scoring four runs in the bottom of the third on a
Brady Eeles 2 RBI single and a pair of fielders choices by
Aaron Krupansky and
Jarod Burton to take a 4-1 lead.
Collin Young ptiched well, going 5.0 innings and striking out four.
Trinity Christian was able to mount a comeback in the top of the sixth with a pair of base hits that forced a Cornerstone pitching change, and then hitting two 2 RBI doubles and an RBI single that gave the Trolls a 6-4 lead. The Golden Eagles were unable to comeback in the final two innings recording only two hits resulting in a 6-4 loss.
Game 2 – Freshman
Alan LaBov recorded his first start as a Golden Eagle in game two, and struggled early, as Trinity scored five runs in the first two innings on a pair of HR's. CU scored two of their own in the second resulting in a 5-2 deficit after two innings of play.
Trinity forced a pitching change after the third inning and it resulted in two more runs for the Trolls on a pair of RBI singles that brought their lead to 7-2. Cornerstone could only get one more run on a
Joe Corsten single that scored
Jonny Abbadusky, as the Trinity starter went 5.2 strong innings in the Golden Eagles 7-3 loss.
