Early offense leads Baseball past Siena Heights 4-2

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone earned a huge win on a cold windy day, defeating Siena Heights 4-2 behind some early offense and an excellent pitching performance. The Golden Eagles are now 17-23, 9-11 WHAC as they inch closer to earning the sixth and final conference tournament spot. CU will continue action vs. Siena Heights on Saturday with a double-header starting at 1 p.m.

Game Flow – The Golden Eagles offense got off to a fast start, as the first two batters got on base in Brady Eeles and Jonny Abbadusky, then three hole hitter Jarod Burton hit them home with a two RBI triple. A groundout by Evan Wagner then scored Burton to give the Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead after one inning of play. Siena Heights then cut into the CU lead, scoring two in the top of the fifth to bring the score to 3-2.

Kyle Herrick pitched for the Golden Eagles and shutdown the Saints after they scored two, striking out a total of nine batters in 7.1 innings. CU then added an insurance run when Evan Wagner scored on a wild pitch to bring the score to 4-2. Cornerstone then looked to the bullpen arm of Noah Reed to close the game out, and he did exactly that earning his second save of the year.
