SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Golden Eagles completed their non-conference schedule on a beautiful day in Spring Arbor, Michigan with a dominant 12-6 win over the Spring Arbor Cougars on Wednesday afternoon. Cornerstone recorded an astonishing 18 hits in the win, powered by a pair of home runs to bring their record to 22-24 overall. CU will return home to take on rival #RV Davenport University on Friday at 3 p.m. to begin the final home series of their season.
Game Flow – Through the first four innings Cornerstone was in a battle with Spring Arbor, as they managed to score a run in the second and third inning on an RBI double by
Aaron Krupansky and a solo homerun from
Jarod Burton. Freshman
Zach Brog got the start for CU, and he gave up two runs of his own before settling in, resulting in a 2-2 tie after four innings of play.
The Cornerstone offense then broke the tie in a big way in the top of the fifth, with an RBI single by
Jarod Burton and a three run HR by
Evan Wagner to get out to a 6-2 lead. CU then added to that with a run in the sixth, three in the seventh and two in the ninth to total 12 runs on 18 hits. Alan Labov came in as relief for the Golden Eagles, giving up four runs (three earned) in two innings pitched while
Brett Shure went 2.0 scoreless innings to close out a 12-6 victory for Cornerstone.
