MISHAWKA, Ind. – The Golden Eagles played in their final non-conference series of the year in a double-header against Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana and earned a split winning the first game 9-6 and losing the second 4-3 on a walk-off. CU is now 16-20 on the year, as their six game winning streak came to an end. Next on the schedule, Cornerstone will prepare for a tough series vs. no. 13 UNOH over the weekend.
Game 1 – The Golden Eagle offense got off to a fast start in game one, scoring three runs in the first on a
Joe Corsten RBI single and an
Aaron Krupansky fielders choice that scored two due to a Bethel throwing error. The Pilots were able to make a quick response in the bottom of the first, tying the game at three on a pair of HR's.
Cornerstone starter
Zach Brog then settled in, going 3.2 innings without giving up another earned run. CU was able to regain the lead in the third with an RBI walk by
Adam Harvey and a two run error by Bethel to go on top 6-3. Bethel then cut it back to a one run game, but the Cornerstone offense again added insurance in the sixth to go up 9-5.
Brett Shure then closed the game out allowing just one Bethel run to plate in the bottom of the sixth to help CU earn a 9-6 win.
Game 2 – The offense again was rolling in the first inning for both teams in game two, as CU scored two in the top of the first on a two RBI triple by
Joe Corsten. Bethel answered in the bottom of the inning with three of their own, highlighted by a pair of RBI singles that gave them a 3-2 lead.
The pitching staffs for both teams then settled in, as starter Alan Labov went four innings without allowing another run to plate. CU was able to tie the game on an
Evan Wagner RBI single in the fifth to bring the score to 3-3. The pitchers continued to dominate, as the game was forced into extra innings where Bethel was finally able to plate a run off
Noah Reed on a bases loaded single to walk-off with a 4-3 win.
