Baseball falls 12-2 in WHAC Tournament Opener

LIMA, Ohio – The top seeded Northwestern Ohio Racers were too much to handle for the Golden Eagles in the first round of the WHAC Tournament, as the host UNOH pulled out a 12-2 win. With the loss, Cornerstone will now enter the loser's bracket of the conference tournament, where it will be win or go home for them in the tournament bracket. CU will pick up play on Monday at noon in Slyvania, Ohio (Lourdes University) for a 12 p.m. elimination game vs. Madonna University.

Game Flow – Northwestern Ohio found offense early, scoring four runs in the top of the second inning that was helped along by a Cornerstone error. The Racers then added another run in the third to quickly get out to a 5-0 lead and end starting pitcher Kyle Herrick's day after just 2.2 innings pitched.

Brett Shure then came in and pitched and stopped the bleeding for a while, but the top seeded Racers were able to figure him out as well and score five more runs. Cornerstone's only offense came in the fourth on an Aaron Krupansky RBI single, and in the sixth on a Brady Volmering RBI groundout. CU was down 10-2 after eight innings of play, and then UNOH scored two more in the top of the ninth off freshman pitcher Daniel Abbgy to earn a 12-2 win over Cornerstone.
