Herrick shines in 6-5 win at Lawrence Tech

UTICA, Mich. – Senior pitcher Kyle Herrick shined in the WHAC opener, striking out eight to help the Golden Eagles to a 6-5 road victory. CU is now 2-0 to start the fall, and 1-0 in conference play. Cornerstone will play two more vs. Lawrence Tech tomorrow starting at 1 p.m.

Game 1 – Walks were key in this one, as CU drew 10 walks on the game (seven in the first 3.1 innings) to help get out to an early lead. Cornerstone scored first in the second inning on an RBI double by Kyle DeShryver and Brady Eeles RBI single to go up 2-0.

The rest of the Golden Eagles offense then came in the fourth, when they scored four runs highlighted by a two run LTU error on a bunt single by Gabe Zeiger. Lawrence Tech cut the deficit to 4-1 in the bottom of the inning on a double steal.

Starting pitcher Kyle Herrick left after seven strong innings on the mound, striking out eight and walking just two. The CU bullpen struggled walking five batters and allowing four Lawrence Tech runners to score in the ninth. Nick Hill came in looking to shut the door in a now one run game, and did just that to give CU a 6-5 win.
