Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 UTICA, Mich. – The Golden Eagles earned a split in their Saturday double-header at Lawrence Tech, falling 7-6 on a walk-off in game one and winning 9-1 in game two. CU is now 3-1 on the year and 2-1 in league play. Cornerstone will get set to take on another WHAC foe in Madonna next weekend at De Witt Field.

Game 1 – The Blue Devils scored first in this one, earning two runs in the bottom of the second on an RBI single and groundout to take a 2-0 lead. The Golden Eagles responded immediately though, as they got two of their own in the top of the third on an Aaron Krupansky RBI single and a Jarod Burton RBI groundout to tie the game at two.

Both starting pitchers then began to settle in as Noah Reed and Sam Brace did not allow another run until the seventh inning. Cornerstone broke the tie in the top of the seventh when Jarod Burton recorded a three RBI triple off Lawrence Tech reliever Chris Burgess, giving CU the 5-2 lead.

LTU cut the Cornerstone lead back to just one in the bottom of the seventh with a two run homerun off the bat of Tyler Childs. Cornerstone then responded with an insurance run in the eighth to go back up by 6-4, but it wasn't enough as Lawrence Tech scored two in the eighth and one in the ninth against the bullpen arms of Cornerstone to walk away 7-6 winners.

Game 2 – Game two was all Cornerstone from start to finish. The scoring started with a Jarod Burton solo homerun in the first inning. CU then added four more runs in the third that was highlighted by a Gabe Zeiger two RBI single to give them a 5-0 lead.

Collin Young was on the mound for the Golden Eagles and was dominant, going seven innings and allowing just one run while striking out eight. Young continued to get help from his offense as CU added four more runs in the final four innings to earn a 9-1 win and get a series victory at Lawrence Tech.
