GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles began conference play against Lawrence Tech on Saturday evening. The Blue Devils scored early and the Golden Eagles responded with a goal midway through the second half. The game ended in a 1-1 draw after double overtime. Cornerstone (1-3-2, 0-0-1 WHAC) will play four consecutive WHAC games on the road before returning to Grand Rapids to host Marygrove on October 11.
Game Flow
Lawrence Tech jumped out to a quick 1-0 advantage just seven minutes into the game. Cornerstone had a golden opportunity to even the score early in the second half with a penalty kick, but the LTU keeper made a brilliant diving save to block the attempt from
Josue Uquillas. Four minutes later,
Richard Areche scored off of a scramble in front of the net from a long throw in from
Kyle Doornbos. The Golden Eagles had a couple more solid scoring chances, including a shot from 30 yards by
Sebastian Ramos that hit the crossbar, bounced down, and stayed out. Both teams tallied two shots on goal in overtime but none found the back of the net.
Inside the Box

Cornerstone will play two WHAC matches on the road next week. They'll travel to Rochester for a 1:00 p.m. match on September 26, then they'll travel to Madonna on September 29 for a 4:30 p.m. match.
