GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles end a three game series vs. Madonna with a pair of losses, falling 10-4 in game one and 9-4 in game two. CU drops all three vs. Madonna this weekend to move their record to 3-4, 2-4 WHAC this season. Cornerstone will conclude the fall season with a series vs. Concordia next weekend. The first game starts Friday at 6 p.m. at De Witt Field.
Game 1 – Cornerstone and Madonna started this one in a pitching duel, as the only run to score in the first six innings came when
Gabe Zeiger scored on a
Brandon Hepp RBI single. CU starter
Noah Reed went six scoreless innings with 10 K's before running into some trouble, as Madonna tied the game on an error and then took a 3-1 lead on a two RBI double by William De Costa.
Madonna would go on to score two more runs in the seventh to take a 5-1 lead. CU would then respond with a run in the bottom of the seventh on an
Aaron Krupansky triple to cut the deficit to 5-2. The Golden Eagle bullpen could not stop the Crusaders offense though, as another two runs scored in the eighth and three in the ninth to bring their total to 10. Aaron Krupansky that scored
Joe Corsten to make it 3-3.
The score remained tied at three until Madonna irrupted for six in the top of the ninth highlighted by a two RBI triple to take a 9-3 lead. CU was only able to get one back in the bottom of the inning on a
