Volleyball sweeps Rochester in Night of Nets home opener

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The no. 10 ranked Golden Eagles continued their fast start to the 2017 season, posting a three set sweep over WHAC foe Rochester College in the Night of Nets home opener. Cornerstone now moves to 8-1 on the year and 1-0 in conference play. CU will now hit the road this weekend for the Holiday Inn Tournament hosted by Viterbro University, where they will see four matches in two days.

Cornerstone got off to a quick start in the opening set, finding an early 17-6 lead that was highlighted by seven consecutive points and three kills by Kendra Zwart. CU, with a .344 hitting percentage, finished off the Warriors in the first set with a Hope Leppink kill for a 25-12 set win.
 
The Golden Eagles saw their cleanest set in the second, recording 17 kills and just three errors to win 25-15. The serve from Maria Ma caused problems for Rochester, as CU scored seven consecutive points on Ma's service.
 
The Waririors battled in the third set, keeping up with the Golden Eagles for much of the set, but Cornerstone was able to win seven of nine points down the stretch to take a 17-12 lead. The match was then ended by kill leader Kendra Zwart, who tallied her 13th kill to get CU a 25-20 third set victory.

Cornerstone will head to Wisconsin for the Holiday Inn Tournament, where they will play four games (two vs. top 25 opponents) at Viterbero University over the weekend.
