Women’s Hoops wins sixth straight 64-59 vs. Rochester

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles continued to play dominant defensive basketball, holding Rochester to under 40% to earn their sixth consecutive victory, 64-59. Cornerstone is now 11-8, 6-3 WHAC on the year as they get set to conclude the first half of conference action at home against Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday.

Game Flow
Cornerstone took an early first quarter lead in a defensive struggle, holding Rochester to just 19% shooting in the period to be on top 14-9. CU would build their lead to as many as nine in the second quarter behind the inside scoring of Shaina DenBesten (7 points) and Cass Vredevoogd (6 points). Rochester continued to hoist the three though, and finally started to hit some down the stretch to go on an 8-0 run and tie the score at 29 entering the half. 

Rochester continued their strong offense early in the third quarter, taking their biggest lead at seven points just three minutes into the period. CU would then battle back to take a 46-45 lead at the end of the third behind strong free throw shooting and the inside scoring of Shelby Nyboer. After trading buckets early in the fourth, CU would go on a 6-0 run to take the lead back one final time and earn a 64-59 victory.

10-3 – Rochester went 10-35 from the three-point line while Cornerstone went 3-10 from behind the arc.
11/10 –. Cass Vredevoogd recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. 
 32.8% – Cornerstone's defense stayed dominant holding Rochester to just 22-67 from the field.
25-10 – The Golden Eagles depth proved crucial in the win, as they outscored the Warriors bench 25-10.
