GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – For the second consecutive season and fifth time in program history, the Cornerstone Volleyball team has won the WHAC Tournament Championship. The Golden Eagles survived a 5-set marathon against rival Aquinas to claim an automatic berth to the NAIA National Tournament. CU will find out its opening round opponent on Monday morning in an announcement made by the national office.
What you need to know
- Aquinas won the opening set 25-20 in which they never trailed
- After jumping out 3-0 in set two, the Golden Eagles dominated, 25-15
- Set three came down to the wire with CU winning a 40-second rally to pull ahead 2-1 with the 27-25 victory
- Aquinas was dominant in the fourth set, winning 25-15
- The two teams traded points in the 5th until CU won two straight at the side switch to go up 8-7
- Cornerstone then won six of the next eight points to build 14-9 lead and went on to win 15-11

Cornerstone will now play in the 2018 NAIA National Tournament Opening Round on November 17. The site and opponent will be announced on Monday, November 12 at 11 a.m. EST.
