GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles came back from losing both games yesterday to earn 7-6 and 5-1 victories over Spring Arbor Saturday afternoon.
Joe Corsten was the hero of game one, as CU won in walk-off fashion on a bases loaded hit by pitch, while
Noah Reed was the story of game two with nine strikeouts in six innings pitched. Cornerstone will now take roughly a week off before heading to Florida for their annual spring break trip.
Game 1 – After a 1-2-3 first inning from starter
Zach Brog, Spring Arbor struck first in the second with a solo homerun from Vincent Herschberger. The Cougars would then add to the lead with pair of two out bases loaded walks in the top of the third to make the score 3-0.
Cornerstone would get a run back in the bottom of the third, on a wild pitch that would score
Brady Eeles from third to cut the deficit to 3-1. Spring Arbor would quickly get the run back in the top of the fourth to make it 4-1. CU would then respond with a big three run bottom of the fourth highlighted by an RBI double by
Jon Stewart to tie the game at 4-4.
Both teams would trade runs in the fifth to be tied once again at five. SAU would then get a run to regain a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly against reliever
Brett Shure. The Golden Eagle offense would not be done yet though, as
Dustin DeBeau came up with a huge pinch-hit sacrifice fly to score
Brandon Hepp and bring the game to extra innings.

Brady Eeles to give CU the 7-6 victory.
Game 2 – A pitcher's duel was the story of game two, as the only run to score in the first four innings came off an RBI triple by
Jon Stewart that scored
Kyle DeSchryver for the Golden Eagles.
Noah Reed was locked in on the mound for the Golden Eagles going 6.0 innings allowing just four hits to go along with nine strikeouts.
CU added to their 1-0 lead in the fifth a two RBI double by
Aaron Krupansky to take a 3-0 lead. SAU would get their only run off
Noah Reed in the sixth on an RBI triple, but CU would rebound with two more insurance runs in the bottom of the inning to earn a 5-1 game two victory.

Cornerstone will head to Florida for the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational and start with a double-header vs. Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday, March 3 at 9 a.m.
