SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Golden Eagles earned a huge upset victory over No. 20 Lawrence Tech in the WHAC Tournament semifinal that not only puts them in the championship game for the first time since 2008-09, but guarantees them a berth to the NAIA Division II National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa. Cornerstone will travel to No. 9 Indiana Tech for the WHAC Tournament final on Tuesday before finding out who they will play in the national tournament on Wednesday night.
Game Flow
Cornerstone started well, going on a 6-0 run early to take a 10-4 lead. The defenses would kick in from there as CU would stay up by four at the end of the first quarter. Lawrence Tech would battle back to take their first lead of the game in the second quarter at 19-18, and then both teams would trade buckets to be tied at 30 at halftime.
The defenses again came out strong to start the second half, as neither team scored for the first 2:30 of the period. LTU would get out to their biggest lead of three, but
Jesse Sheridan would hit a buzzer beater three to end the quarter to once again give CU an advantage at 44-42. Both offenses woke up in the fourth, but the Cornerstone offense was just a little better, scoring 28 points in the period behind another 6-0 run to help them earn the emotional 72-62 victory advancing them to the WHAC Championship game.

Jesse Sheridan had a game high 20 points in the win, and moved into eighth in program history in scoring in the win.
7-9 –
Taylor Richards was 7-9 from the field with 14 points for the Golden Eagles.
2000 – Cornerstone is the lowest seed to reach the WHAC Tournament championship since the 1999-2000 season.
2013-14 – CU will be heading to the NAIA Division II National Tournament for the first time since 2013-14.
