GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After holding a 37-29 lead at the half, Cornerstone was held to just 22 second half points and 21.4% shooting resulting in a 65-59 loss for the Golden Eagles Wednesday evening. CU now falls to 16-11 on the year and 11-6 in conference play to sit in fourth place in the WHAC. Cornerstone will continue action at Rochester on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Game Flow
The first half was a tale of two quarters, as the Golden Eagles dominated early, opening the game on a 9-0 run to take a 24-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Saints would end the first and start the second quarter on a 10-0 run to cut their deficit to just three points, but CU would battle back to push the advantage back to eight at the half.
Sydney Muller had a game high 10 points in the half, while
Lizzy Otten went a perfect 4-4 from the field for nine.
Aquinas made the adjustments needed to begin the third period, scoring seven of the first 10 points and eventually taking their first lead of the game with 4:19 remaining in the quarter. CU was outscored 18-6 in the quarter to put them down 47-43 with 10 minutes remaining. The Saints then increased their lead to a game high 11 points in the fourth quarter, which was too much for the Golden Eagles to overcome, falling 65-59.
