ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles recorded a program high 22 runs to win 22-1 in a hitting clinic at Rochester College on Saturday afternoon. The game lasted just seven innings and saw seven Golden Eagles record RBI including a career high six RBI for catcher
Dustin DeBeau.
Kyle Herrick threw a complete game on the mound, recording a career and program best 14 strikeouts in the win. Cornerstone is now 16-15 on the year and 7-11 in conference play after the series sweep of the Warriors, and they will now get set to travel to Northwestern Ohio next weekend for a three-game set.
Game Flow – The offense came early and often for the Golden Eagles as
Dustin DeBeau got things started with an RBI single in the first.
Jon Stewart and
Gabe Zeiger would each double in the inning to get CU a 4-0 lead after one. Rochester would get their lone run of the game in the second on an RBI single to cut the deficit to 4-1.
Cornerstone would then irrupt for six more runs in the third inning, including a two RBI single by
Brady Eeles that gave CU the 10-1 lead. Nine more would plate in the sixth inning as
Zack Meyer got involved in the RBI action with a two RBI single. A three-run bomb by
Dustin DeBeau in the seventh would then cap the scoring for the Golden Eagles, bringing the score to 22-1.
Kyle Herrick would record career high strikeout number 14 in the bottom of the seventh to complete an outstanding two hit complete game outing and give the Golden Eagles a 22-1 win.
