LIMA, Ohio. – The Golden Eagles were only able to plate one run in two games today, falling 4-1 and 4-0 at receiving votes Northwestern Ohio this afternoon. With the losses, CU ends a four-game winning streak and moves to 16-17, 7-13 WHAC. Cornerstone will finish the three-game set in Lima, Ohio tomorrow at 1 p.m.
Game 1 – Northwestern Ohio got a quick run off CU starter
Collin Young in the first inning thanks to an RBI single by cleanup hitter Junior Gomez to take a 1-0 lead. The Racers would add another run in the second on an RBI double to make the score 2-0. Young would allow base runners in each of the next three innings but refused to allow a run, holding the score at 2-0 when he exited to start the sixth.
The Golden Eagles would only be able to muster up three hits in the first five innings. CU finally found some offense when
Brady Eeles hit home
Aaron Krupansky on an RBI single that cut the deficit to 2-1 in the top of the sixth inning. Northwestern Ohio would quickly get that run back in the bottom of the sixth, scoring on an RBI single off the new pitcher
Nick Hill to make the score 3-1. UNOH would add another one later in the inning to get their biggest lead of the day, 4-1.
The CU offense was unable to record a hit in the final three innings of play, resulting in a 4-1 loss in game one.
Game 2– UNOH once again got an early run, scoring on a sacrifice fly in the first. The Racers would add to that lead with a two RBI double in the bottom of the third to hold a 3-0 advantage.
Kyle Herrick would settle in from there and hold the score at 3-0 until the eighth inning.
CU was unable to get anything going offensively against starter Mike Alexander, going down 1-2-3 in five innings. Alexander would pitch 7.2 innings strong and strikeout nine on before handing the pitching over to the bullpen. Cornerstone's biggest threat came in the eighth when they got two guys on after a
Gabe Zeiger single, but they were unable to score falling 4-0 in game two.
