Baseball extends win streak to six with sweep of Grace College

LAKE MYRTLE, Fla. –  The Golden Eagles continued their great start in the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational defeating Grace College of Indiana 4-2 and 14-3 in a double-header Monday afternoon. Cornerstone is now 9-6 on the year as they get set to continue action with another double-header against Trinity Christian College tomorrow starting at 2:45 p.m.

Game 1 – The Golden Eagles and Lancers moved quickly through game one as only one run scored in the first three innings on a bases loaded wild pitch that scored Cameron Maxwell to give Grace a 1-0 lead. Cornerstone would then ruin a perfect game for Grace starter David Anderson in the bottom of the fourth on a double by Brady Eeles that would come around to score on another double by Trevor Bastien.

Grace would then regain the lead at 2-1 in the top of the fifth scoring on an RBI single by Xavier Harris. Cornerstone would then rally back to score three in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by a two RBI double by Jarod Burton giving the Golden Eagles their first lead of the day. Starter Kyle Herrick would then complete his stellar outing with a 1-2-3 top of the seventh to earn a 4-2 win.

Game 2 – Cornerstone got off to a quick start in game two, scoring a pair of runs on a Joe Corsten two RBI single in the top of the first to get out to a 2-0 lead. The Golden Eagles quickly added four more runs in the top of the second as Brady Eeles, Jon Stewart, Trevor Bastien, and Jarod Burton all came around to score to give CU the 6-0 lead.

Zach Brog would continue to roll not allowing a hit until the third inning, finishing his day with 4.0 innings pitched allowing two earned runs while also allowing just two hits. The CU offense would continue to roll scoring six combined runs between the fourth and fifth innings to take a 12-0 lead. Grace would find some offense scoring three of their own in the bottom of the fifth, but it would not be enough as CU would walk away with a __-__ win.
