LAKE MYRTLE, Fla. – The Golden Eagles six game win streak came to an end with a pair of losses to Trinity Christian College 8-2 and 6-3. With the losses, Cornerstone moves to 9-8 on the year. CU will get set to take on Trinity Christian for another double-header tomorrow starting at 10 a.m.
Game 1 – Cornerstone took advantage of an early error by Trinity Christian, scoring
Brady Eeles on a
Trevor Bastien sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead in the first. The Trolls would quickly respond with a run of their own on an RBI double by Luke Weston to tie the game at one in the top of the second.
A huge triple to lead off the bottom of the third by
Brady Eeles helped give Cornerstone the lead back as
Jon Stewart would hit a single through the left side to score Eeles and take a 2-1 lead. TCC would respond once again, this time with three runs in the top of the fourth to take their first lead at 4-2.
Trinity Christian would keep the bats going adding two more on a home run by Tyler Sroczynski to move the lead to 6-2.
Daniel Abbgy would then come into relief, giving up two more runs to the Trolls for a final score of 8-2.
Game 2 – The Golden Eagles once again got on the board first, as
Dustin DeBeau singled up the middle to score
Jarod Burton and go up 1-0 in the top of the second. The Trolls would quickly respond in the bottom of the inning, using a sacrifice fly to score Tyler Sroczynski and tie the game at 1-1.
After a walk and two hit by pitch from TCC starter Clay Dehaan,
Jarod Burton would get his second hit of the game to score
Brady Eeles and
Jon Stewart and give CU the 3-1 lead. Designated hitter Jake Tholl would get the Trolls bats going again in the fourth on a solo home run to cut the Cornerstone lead to one. Later in the inning TCC would tie the game at three on an RBI single.
The game would remain tied until the bottom of the sixth when Trinity Christian hit a three-run shot for their second home run of the game to put them up 6-3. CU was unable to get anyone on base in the top of the seventh resulting in a 6-3 game two loss.
