NAIA National Tournament Preview; Men’s Basketball

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – No. 2 Cornerstone University opens the 2018 NAIA DII National Tournament on Wednesday when they face Milligan College (Tenn.) at 5 p.m. EST. The Golden Eagles are looking for their fourth national title in program history and looking to improve to 14-2 all-time in first round games at the tourney. Andy Smith and Aaron Sagraves will have the call on the CSPN while the game can be viewed live on naianetwork.com in a viewing party on Cornerstone's campus.

Scouting Milligan (Tenn.) – Head coach Bill Robinson
The Buffaloes, under head coach Bill Robinson, finished second during the regular season in the AAC before bowing out in the conference tournament first round against Truett-McConnel. Milligan went 15-13 overall and 13-7 in conference play and they are led in scoring by Aaron Levarity who is averaging 17.4 points per game and 12.5 rebounds per game. The team ranks No. 19 in the NAIA in Rebounds per Game (29.1) and No. 20 in FG% Defense (.425). Milligan has played just one other team in this year's field of 32 as they are 0-2 against Union College.
 
NAIA Tournament History
Cornerstone is making their 16th appearance at the NAIA National Tournament (14 in Point Lookout, Mo. and 1 in Nampa, Idaho). CU has an overall record of 37-12 in the tourney and boasts a trio of championships in 1999, 2011 and 2015.
 
First Round Success
In their 15 previous trips to the NAIA DII National Tournament, Cornerstone boasts an incredible 13-2 mark in the first round. Only in 2005-06 and 2011-12 did they fail to advance to the second round.
 
37 and Counting
Head coach Kim Elders has the most all-time NAIA DII Tournament wins with 37. He has guided the Golden Eagles to a 37-12 record in 15 appearances
 
WHAC Presence in S.D
Cornerstone joins fellow WHAC schools, Indiana Tech and UM-Dearborn in this year's field of 32. The Warriors are a No. 2 seed in their quadrant and will take on West Virginia Tech and the Wolverines are a No. 7 seed, facing St. Thomas (Fla.).
