Baseball earns 2-1 win over Concordia in conference spring opener

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Golden Eagles earned a huge 2-1 win over receiving votes Concordia in the conference spring opener. Collin Young pitched 7.1 innings strong and Noah Reed earned his second save in as many games to help Cornerstone move to 12-8, 3-4 WHAC. CU will conclude their time in Florida with two more nine inning games against Concordia starting at 2:30 p.m.

Game Flow – Cornerstone starter Collin Young and Concordia starter Hunter Klaassen were lights out on the mound early on, allowing just six combined hits in the first four innings of play. Jarod Burton would then score the first run of the game on an RBI single up the middle from Aaron Krupansky to give CU the 1-0 lead.

Cornerstone would add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, as Joe Corsten came around on an RBI single from Gabe Zeiger to make it 2-0. Collin Young would continue to hold Concordia off the scoreboard, stranding eight runners in 7.1 innings pitched while striking out two and walking two. Noah Reed would take over the pitching duties needing two outs in the top of the eighth and would get them after Concordia scored one to hold a 2-1 CU lead. Reed would remain in the game for the ninth and record a 1-2-3 inning to get his second save in as many games and give Cornerstone the 2-1 win.
