Game 1 – Cornerstone got two long home runs off the bats of
Jarod Burton and
Brady Eeles and it was all they would need with
Kyle Herrick on the mound.
The senior faced just two over the minimum in the complete game victory and did not allow a hit until the sixth inning but quickly got out of that with an inning-ending double play. The right-hander struck out four on the day and got 13 ground-ball outs.
Burton's home run came in the bottom of the second while Eeles first career shot came in the third.
Game 2 – Herrick got the start again in the second game and was perfect through nine hitters while striking out a pair of Gray Wolves. CU got the offense started early with a 3-spot in the first inning thanks a run scored on a balk, a
Joe Corsten sac fly and a
Jan Elias RBI single.
The Golden Eagles added to their lead with a single run in the third when Adam Harvey singled home Trevor Bastien and then broke the game open with a 3-run home run off the bat of Jarod Burton in the 4th, scoring
Aaron Krupansky and Brad Eeles.
The Gray Wolves did get a single run in each of the 4th and 5th innings as they managed five hits in game two after just two in the opener.
Game 3 – Lourdes scored a run in the second and third innings and held a 2-0 lead for the majority of the game. Cornerstone threatened to get on the board in the 4th and 5th innings, but stranded two runners in each inning.
Aaron Krupansky led off the sixth inning with a double, but the Gray Wolves defense retired the next three batters in order. With one out in the 7th inning, Cornerstone had two runners in scoring position. An RBI single by
Jon Stewart cut the deficit in half, but comeback ultimately fell short.
