Non-conference season concludes with 11-2 win for Baseball

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles offense hit its stride Tuesday night, as CU concluded the non-conference season with an 11-2 win at former WHAC rival Davenport. The win gives Cornerstone their first victory over an NCAA Division II opponent since 2014 when they defeated Ashland University. CU is 23-22 on the year as they get set to conclude the regular season at UM-Dearborn in a three-game conference set this weekend.

Game Flow – The Cornerstone offense would get off to a quick start as Dustin DeBeau recorded a two out single in the top of the first to score Jarod Burton and Trevor Bastien to take a 2-0 lead. The lead would grow to five in the fourth for the Golden Eagles, as three runs scored including a Brady Eeles RBI triple. Starter Jon Martin would go three strong allowing just one hit in the pitch by committee outing for CU.

Davenport would get their only two runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth thanks to an RBI single and double that cut their deficit to 5-2. The CU bats would just keep pounding out runs though scoring two in the sixth and one in the seventh to make the score 8-2. Aaron Krupansky would record an RBI single in the top of the ninth and Jarod Burton would hit a two-run homer to cap the offensive display, giving CU an 11-2 victory.
