Men's Soccer overwhelmed by #RV Olivet Nazarene

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles hosted Olivet Nazarene on Friday afternoon in a non-conference match. The Tigers, who are receiving votes nationally, overwhelmed the CU defense with 18 shots and four goals to hand Cornerstone their fifth loss of the season. The Golden Eagles will return to action next week Wednesday for a road game at Marian before returning home on September 21 for the Night of Nets game and the WHAC opener against Concordia.

How it happened:

  • Olivet Nazarene got off to a hot start, tallying six shots in the first twenty minutes.

  • The Tigers broke the ice with a goal in the 28th minute, then extended the deficit to 3-0 with two late first half goals.

  • Richard Areche got the Golden Eagles on the board in the 70th minute with his second goal of the year.

  • Olivet Nazarene sealed the game with a goal just two minutes after Cornerstone got on the board.

 

By the Numbers

  • James Pipe assisted Areche's goal, giving him six points in six matches.

  • Josh Gonzalez made his first appearance as a Golden Eagle.

  • Second loss to a 'receiving votes' opponent, the first being Spring Arbor.  

  • Cornerstone faced 18 shots for the second time this season (Spring Arbor).

 

What's Next?

The Golden Eagles will return to action next week Wednesday for a road game at Marian before returning home on September 21 for the Night of Nets game and the WHAC opener against Concordia.
