Men’s Basketball rebounds with 11-point win vs. No. 25 Indiana Tech

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles got revenge on Saturday afternoon in a top 25 matchup, defeating the no. 25 Indiana Tech Warriors 68-57 to split the season series. A strong run to end the first half and begin the second would give Cornerstone a game high lead of 20 points that was too much for the Warriors to overcome. Sam Vander Sluis and Riley Costen combined for 43 points in the win, moving the team to 16-5, 9-2 WHAC on the year. CU will remain at home on Wednesday to host rival Aquinas College at 7:30 p.m.   

What you need to know
  • Cornerstone would take six threes' in the first three minutes of the game and would hit three of them to tie the game at nine early. 
  • The teams would hit a dry spell offensively with the score being tied at 16 for just under three minutes of game action. 
  • CU would end the half on a 10-2 run highlighted by a three at the buzzer from Riley Costen to go into the break up 11 at 36-25. 
  • The Golden Eagles began the second half on a 6-0 run that included a Kyle Hayes steal and layup, forcing Indiana Tech into an early timeout. 
  • The Cornerstone defense would pick up, holding the Warriors to just two points in the first 5:26 of the second half, as the Golden Eagles continued to pull away to increase their lead to as many as 20.
  • Indiana Tech would begin to hit some three's in the final 10 minutes, but would only be able to cut the deficit to as low as seven allowing CU would go on to win 68-57.

25/19/7 – Sam Vander Sluis tied a career high with seven assists to go along with his 25 points and 19 rebounds.

Cornerstone will remain at home to host rival Aquinas on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. Cornerstone student activities is hosting a whiteout and encourages all in attendance to wear white to the game.
