ADRIAN, Mich. – The Golden Eagles' conference struggles continued on Wednesday night against Siena Heights. The Saints scored a goal early and added an insurance tally in the waning minutes to secure a 2-0 victory over Cornerstone, whose record drops to 1-11-1 overall, 0-6 WHAC. The attention now shifts to Friday, as Cornerstone will host Lourdes in their annual Night of Nets match in search of their first conference win of the season.
The Highlights:
- Cornerstone had the game's first scoring chance, when David Dwumfour Poku crossed up a defender along the sidelines before his cross attempt failed to connect with a striker in the middle.
- The Saints found the back of the net first when a long through ball allowed the speedy SHU forward to break away from three defenders before burying what would prove to be the game-winning goal.
- The Golden Eagles nearly replicated the Saints goal a few minutes later when Joshua Busscher fed a through ball to speedy forward Dwumfour Poku, but the shot attempt was saved by the goalkeeper.
- Siena Heights scored their second goal off a sequence of passes during an odd-man rush with 15 minutes to play.
By the Numbers:
- Cornerstone finished with a 15-14 edge in the shots category.
- Lucas Ribeiro led the team with three shots. Four other Golden Eagles had two shot attempts.
- Micah Boggs' pair of shot attempts extends his team-leading total to 16 on the season.
- Three consecutive shutouts against the Golden Eagles
