GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles opened the second half of WHAC play at cross-town rival Aquinas and fell in straight sets 23-25, 23-25, 24-26. Unlike the first go around that went five sets, saw a power outage, and took over two days to complete, Aquinas was able to close each set out to split the season series with the Golden Eagles. Both teams are now 7-4 in WHAC play while Cornerstone drops to 10-12 overall increasing the losing streak to a season high four matches.
Game Recap – AQ – 3 CU – 0 (25-23, 25-23, 26-24)
- The Saints got off to a quick start taking an 8-3 set one lead on three kills from Payton Klien.
- Cornerstone responded to tie things at 18 after an attacking error from AQ's Kali Crawford.
- Alexis Angus recorded a kill to once again tie things at 23, but the Saints scored the final two points to take set one 25-23.
- Aquinas went on a 4-0 run in set two to take a 14-10 lead.
- Cornerstone responded with three 3-0 runs highlighted by the strong play of Jackie Stanko to tie set two back up at 21 all.
- The Saints were once again able to pull it out in the final stages, winning 25-23 on a Maddie Ingraham kill.
- Set three was the strongest for the Golden Eagles getting out to a six-point lead at 18-12 after a service ace by Rylie Walters.
- A long rally then went in the favor of the Saints pushing the momentum back in their court.
- Cornerstone led 23-20, but AQ scored six of the last seven points to take set three 26-24 and win the match 3-0.
By the Numbers
- Jackie Stanko was the lone Golden Eagle with double-digit kills recording 12 on the day.
- Alexis Angus led the team with two assisted blocks to go along with nine kills.
- Patsy Morris recorded 17 digs to lead CU.
- Cornerstone recorded six service aces on the match, but had seven service errors.

Cornerstone continues the road trip at WHAC foe Indiana Tech on Friday for another 7 p.m. match.
