FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Golden Eagles got down two sets to one, and nearly completed a miraculous comeback but ultimately fell in five sets 25-22, 23-25, 16-25, 28-26, 9-15. Cornerstone has now lost five straight games and sits at 10-13, 7-5 WHAC on the year. Another tough conference opponent is on tap for CU tomorrow as they take on Northwestern Ohio at 1 p.m.
Game Recap – IIT – 3 CU – 2 (25-22, 23-25, 16-25, 28-26, 9-15)
- The Golden Eagles got off to a commanding start, going on a 10-1 run in set one to take an 18-15 lead and eventually win 25-22 off a kill by Olivia Keelean.
- CU led for the majority of set two, but a 5-1 run down the stretch by the Warriors cost the Golden Eagles the set 25-23.
- IIT dominated set three, using a 7-0 run to get out to an early 11-5 lead as they took the set 25-16.
- All looked dead for the Golden Eagles in set four trailing 17-11, but a 7-2 run sparked Cornerstone to eventually tie the match up at 23 on a kill from Taylor Huizenga.
- Then when trailing 26-25, Brooke Nicholson recorded two huge kills to help CU force a fifth set winning 28-26.
- Cornerstone rode the momentum into the fifth set getting out to a 7-4 lead on five attacking errors by Indiana Tech.
- Indiana Tech responded with an 11-2 run to end the set and win 15-9 and take the match in five sets.
By the Numbers
- 14 different Golden Eagles saw the floor today, the most of any match this season.
- Brooke Nicholson was the only Golden Eagle with double-digit kills recording 15 on the match.
- Patsy Morris led the team with 27 digs, while Kayla Clark recorded a team high 37 assists.
- Cornerstone is now 1-5 in five set matches this season.
What's Next?
Cornerstone will face another tough WHAC opponent in Northwestern Ohio tomorrow at 1 p.m. CU lost in five sets at home last time out vs. the Racers.
