Men’s Soccer earns tie on rainy cold day at Cleary

HOWELL, Mich. – In a long cold and rainy day in Howell, the Golden Eagles earned a 1-1 tie with cleary after playing regulation and two overtime periods. The lone goal was scored by Logan Johns, which is his first of the season. Cornerstone is now 2-12-2, 1-7-1 WHAC as they look to make the final push to sneak into the post season conference tournament. CU will end the regular season with two home games, starting with Lawrence Tech on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

How it happened:

  • The Golden Eagles got off to a quick start scoring in the fifth minute on a corner kick taken from Christian Galloway that was put away in the back of the net by Logan Johns

  • The rest of the first half was very even as both teams recorded nine shots, but Cornerstone held the lead at the break 1-0.

  • In the second half, Cleary hit their stride as Juan Gomez scored in the 69th minute to tie the game at one.

  • The conditions continued to get worse as the night went on as neither team found the net resulting in overtime.

  • Cornerstone saw three shots in the first overtime, but only one on the net as the game remained tied 1-1.

  • In the second OT, the conditions and toll of a long game wore on both sides as neither team recorded a shot resulting in a 1-1 tie.

By the Numbers:

  • Logan Johns recorded his third career goal in the tie vs. Cleary.

  • Cornerstone is just two wins out from WHAC Tournament contention.

  • Christian Galloway recorded his team leading third assist of 2019 in the game.
