ADRIAN, Mich. – Junior
Jackie Stanko demolished her previous career high in kills, recording 22 to help Cornerstone defeat Siena Heights 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. CU earns a season sweep of the Saints and with a pair of four set victories this weekend, the team is now 14-16, 11-8 WHAC on the year. The Golden Eagles have some time off before closing out the regular season at Concordia on Friday, November 8 at 7 p.m.
Game Recap – CU – 3 SHU – 1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20)
- After set one was at a 15-15 tie, Cornerstone erupted to score the final 10 points and take set one, 25-15. Kayla Clark saw two service aces, while Jackie Stanko finished the set off with a big kill.
- In set two, the Golden Eagles fell behind 17-12 after two consecutive SHU service aces.
- Cornerstone responded to tie things at 21 on a kill by Jackie Stanko, but the Saints closed out the set and won 25-23 to even the match.
- SHU scored the first four points of set three.
- Cornerstone took their first lead of set three on a Rylie Walters kill at 11-10.
- Back-to-back kills from Olivia Keelean and another set clinching kill from Jackie Stanko helped CU win set three 25-22.
- Cornerstone started set four strong with two more service aces by Kayla Clark to get out to a 5-0 lead.
- Alexis Angus recorded a kill to make it 11-3.
- The Saints responded later with a 10-1 run but Alexis Angus recorded the final kill to win set four 25-20 and clinch the match 25-20 for CU.
By the Numbers
- Jackie Stanko put away 22 of 33 attempts for a career high 22 kills and a season high .485 hitting percentage in the win.
- Brooke Nicholson led the team with five blocks.
- Cornerstone had 11 service aces in the match including five from Kayla Clark.
- CU had a positive hitting percentage in all four sets, in today's match.
