KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Behind 7.0 strong innings and eight strikeouts from right handed senior
Collin Young, Cornerstone would earn their first win of 2019 5-0 vs. Trinity Baptist. CU scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away and earn the win in the first game of the team's spring break trip to Kissimmee, Florida. The Golden Eagles are now 1-4 on the year as they will take on Grace College (Ind.) and Trinity Baptist tomorrow at 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at Lake Myrtle Park.
Game Highlights
- CU got two runners on in the first inning, but would be unable to score early.
- The Golden Eagles broke up the pitching duel in the fourth inning, drawing four walks from Trinity starter Austin Hiller as Jan Elias would walk to score Trevor Bastien and make it 1-0.
- After an Austin Hurt hit by pitch and an advancement to second on a wild pitch, Aaron Krupansky hit a single to center to give CU a 2-0 lead.
- CU scored three more in the inning, including two RBI single from Jarod Burton.
- Collin Young avoided some trouble in the top of the seventh after Cain Ruiz would gun down a runner at home to keep the shutout in place.
- Collin Young finished with 7.0 innings pitched, eight K's, eight ground outs, and only one walk.
- Alan LaBov came in and pitch the final two innings, locking it down to give CU the 5-0 win.
