NAIA Opening Round Recap
Cornerstone advanced to the second round of the NAIA DII National Tournament after a 69-63 win over Friends University (Kan.) in the opening round. CU only shot 34.9%, but they held Friends to a 31.9% clip and 18.2% from behind the arc to survive and advance to play College of Idaho. The two seed College of Idaho advanced to the second round after an 87-74 win over the seven seed Vorhees (S.C.). The Yotes shot 44.6% and had four players in double-figures in their opening round win.
Vander Sluis Rebounding Record
Senior
Sam Vander Sluis has etched his name in yet another record book, breaking the single game program record for rebounds in a game as well as the NAIA DII National Tournament single game record with 27 boards vs. Friends in the opening round. Vander Sluis had 17 of his 27 in the first half and recorded 20 points along with it for his 31st double-double of the season. Vander Sluis is also just five rebounds away from the most in a career during the NAIA DII National Tournament with 132 currently in 11 games. Five more rebounds in the national tournament would have Vander Sluis pass former teammate and now assistant coach
Kyle Steigenga for most in the tournament.
