GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles got out to a great start, holding a 5-1 lead against NCAA DI Central Michigan, but the Chippewas scored nine unanswered including five in the ninth inning to earn a 10-5 win over CU. Cornerstone is now 14-21 on the year as they will return to conference action on Good Friday as they host Concordia for a 1 p.m. double-header.
Game Highlights
- Central Michigan got a pair of two out hits to get runners on first and third and then scored the first run of the game in the top of the first on a double steal attempt to make it 1-0.
- Cornerstone quickly responded as a lead-off single by Aaron Krupansky came around to score later in the inning on a Jarod Burton RBI single tying the game at 1-1.
- CU loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the second, and took advantage as Aaron Krupansky recorded an RBI single followed by a three RBI double from Jarod Burton to give the Golden Eagles a 5-1 lead.
- The Chippewas got a run back in the top of the fourth with a sacrifice fly to make it 5-2. Jared Riley's day on the hill concluded after the sacrifice fly and Alan Labov entered to pitch.
- Alan Labov continued the strong Golden Eagles pitching performance going 2.2 innings, allowing no runs to keep CU on top 5-2.
- Brett Shure came in to start the top of the seventh, but after giving up a run on an RBI single would be relieved by Noah Reed. Reed gave up another RBI single that cut the Golden Eagle lead to just one after the top of the seventh.
- CMU continued to chip away at the lead, scoring a run to tie the game at five in the top of the eighth on a bases loaded walk.
- Daniel Abbgy came in and pitched looking to keep the game tied and did exactly that, recording a huge 6-4-3 double play to end the top of the eighth inning.
- Central Michigan took their first lead since the top of the first inning, erupting for five runs in the top of the ninth to take a 10-5 lead.
- CU was unable to score in the bottom of the ninth, falling 10-5 to CMU.
