GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – On a day where the Golden Eagles honored 11 seniors, the team came up with a pair of huge conference wins defeating Northwestern Ohio 6-2 and 7-1. Cornerstone puts themselves in much better position for potential postseason play as they have now won four in a row and sit at 18-23, 11-9 WHAC. CU will conclude the regular season at WHAC leading and no. 21 Indiana Tech tomorrow starting at 11:30 a.m.
Game One
- After a clean first inning, the Golden Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the second with an RBI triple from Austin Hurt that scored Trenton Gilman and a Brandon Hepp single that scored Hurt to make it 2-0.
- UNOH got their first run in the top of the third on a Derek Coverstone RBI single to make it 2-1.
- Cornerstone got back on top by two with another RBI triple, this time by Trevor Bastien to score Gabe Zeiger and make it 3-1.
- Both offenses would be shut down for the next three innings, until Aaron Krupansky added another run in the bottom of the seventh off the UNOH relief pitcher to make it 4-1.
- Trevor Bastien later singled in the inning to score Gabe Zeiger and make it 5-1.
- Noah Reed finished his pitching performance with a strong day going 7.0 innings, allowing just one run (0 earned), while striking out seven batters.
- The Racers got one back in the top of the eighth with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit back to three at 5-2.
- Aaron Krupansky singled in the bottom of the eighth to increase the lead back to four at 6-2.
- Alan LaBov pitched the final two innings and secured the 6-2 victory.
Game Two
- Just like in game one, the scoring started in the second inning, but this time Northwestern Ohio gets on the board first with an RBI double from Jonathan Rodriguez.
- Cornerstone responded quickly scoring three runs in the bottom of the second after some sloppy play from the Racers to take a 3-1 lead.
- Despite both teams seeing multiple runners get on base over the next four innings, neither pitcher would give up a run keeping the score 3-1. Collin Young would go 6.0 innings, allowing four hits, one run, while recording five strikeouts.
- The Golden Eagles added to their lead in the bottom of the seventh, scoring a run on a Jarod Burton RBI single off the Racers relief pitcher Andres Medina to make it 4-1.
- After another pitching change for the Racers, Gabe Zeiger hit an RBI single followed by an Austin Hurt sacrifice fly that increased the CU lead to 6-1 after seven innings of play.
- One more run would cross in the eighth for CU as Jarod Burton hit an infield single to score Joe Corsten and make it 7-1.
- Chandler McKinney and Aaron Krupansky combined to pitch the final three innings securing a game two win and a sweep on the day at 7-1.
