Box Score 2 FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The final regular season double-header ended in interesting fashion as the Golden Eagles got up early Saturday morning to take on no. 21 Indiana Tech in a double-header with WHAC Tournament contention on the line. CU dropped game one 13-0 in seven innings and game two was suspended and then postponed in a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the seventh. The two teams will finish the game sometime next week if it effects the final WHAC standings heading into the conference tournament. CU ends the regular season 18-24, 11-10 WHAC as they will watch this weekend to see if they have done enough to clinch a postseason berth.
Game One
- Both starters had a clean first two innings, as Golden Eagle starter Chandler McKinney recorded three flyouts in the first inning and three groundouts in the second inning to keep the game scoreless.
- Indiana Tech got on the board in the third, on a two RBI single and a triple to take a 3-0 lead.
- After more struggles came in the fifth for the Golden Eagles, McKinney was relieved by Andrew VanDyke and the Warriors were able to score to score five more runs before VanDyke got a strikeout to end the inning, making it 8-0.
- Indiana Tech scored five more in the sixth to quickly make it 13-0 and forced Jeremy Praski into the game to end the damage.
- The Golden Eagles saw three consecutive 1-2-3 innings, resulting in a 13-0 mercy rule loss in game one after seven innings had been completed.
Game Two
- Indiana Tech recorded a run in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly that made it 1-0.
- In the third, CU saw a two RBI hit from Brandon Hepp that gave the Golden Eagles their first lead of the day at 2-1.
- An Austin Hurt double in the top of the fourth increased the CU lead to 3-1, scoring Gabe Zeiger.
- Indiana Tech got one back in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single that cut the Golden Eagles lead back to just one at 3-2.
- Indiana Tech later tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with yet another RBI single.
- In the sixth, CU regained the lead on an Aaron Krupansky sacrifice fly to make it 4-3.
- Brett Shure came in and pitched the bottom of the seventh and gave up a solo homerun to tie the game back up at 4-4.
- In the top of the eighth the rain started to fall, forcing the game to be suspended and postponed. The game will be made up if the conference standings end up being affected.
What's Next?
The Golden Eagles will wait out the rest of this weekend's games around the WHAC to determine if they need to finish the game at Indiana Tech or if they have done enough to clinch a conference tournament berth.
