GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –  In a double-header road series that was moved last minute to De Witt Field, the Golden Eagles earned a split with crosstown rival Aquinas losing game one 15-7 and winning game two 10-4. The offense combined for 26 hits, while senior Collin Young ended his scoreless inning streak with a program record 23.1 innings without giving up a run. Cornerstone is now 12-17, 5-5 WHAC as they will quickly return to action at Rochester College tomorrow starting at 1 p.m.

Game One
  • Cornerstone got off to a hot start offensively, scoring a run in each of the first three innings as the visiting team. Aaron Krupansky and Gabe Zeiger each recorded RBI singles while Eric Bradberry reached on a fielder's choice and earned an RBI.
  • Aquinas responded by getting to CU starter Noah Reed in the bottom of the third inning, tying the game at three highlighted by an RBI single from Troy Lofgren.
  • The Saints then took their first lead of the game at 4-3 with a run in the bottom of the fourth that scored on a double-play.

  • Aaron Krupansky then tied the game later in the top of the sixth with an RBI single that scored the pinch runner Chase Mitchell
  • Aquinas then took advantage of a struggling Cornerstone bullpen, scoring three runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to get on top 12-6. In the seventh AQ scored all three of their runs without recording a hit.
  • Jeremy Praski entered the game for CU as the fourth pitcher of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning and would give up three more runs to bring the deficit to nine at 15-6.
  • Dan Sewak came in as a pinch hitter in the top of the ninth and singled after an Aaron Krupansky walk which helped CU get a run back on an AQ error later in the inning, but that is all CU would get falling 15-7 in game one.

  • Aaron Krupansky brought two more runs in with a single to center field that made it 4-0 in the top of the fourth.
  • Jarod Burton and Trevor Bastien each added an RBI hit to give CU a 6-0 lead.
  • Three consecutive singles by the Golden Eagles to start the sixth inning led to another run as Gabe Zeiger drove in Jarod Burton to make the score 7-0.
  • A Trenton Gilman sacrifice fly scored Trevor Bastien and made the score 8-0 later in the inning.
  • Aquinas finally found a way to score a run on CU starter Collin Young, who went 23.1 innings of scoreless ball before the Saints ended the streak by putting up three runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit to 8-3.
  • Alan LaBov came in relief in the seventh inning and allowed AQ to score one more run after a wild pitch, cutting the Golden Eagles lead to 8-4.
