MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The Golden Eagles continued their season-opening four-game road stretch on Tuesday evening at Mount Vernon Nazarene. The Cougars found the back of the net three times to hand Cornerstone their second loss of the season. The Golden Eagles will return to action on Saturday afternoon in Illinois in search of their first victory of the season at Saint Xavier.
The Highlights:
- MVNU jumped out to an early lead by finding the back of the net just ten minutes into the contest.
- In the 20th minute, the Cougars nearly doubled their lead but CU goalkeeper Joshua Mitchell was able to make the save off the MVNU striker to keep the lead at one.
- With 17 minutes to play in the first half, a foul committed in the box gave MVNU a penalty kick attempt, which was buried to give the Cougars a 2-0 advantage heading into the break.
- Midway through the second half, Mount Vernon sealed the deal when a ball was crossed through the CU defense before being fired into the back of the net to make it 3-0.
