PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – After a strong first day at the SXU/TCC Crossover, the Golden Eagles dropped both matches on day two in straight sets falling to (24) Marian and (RV) Trinity Christian. Cornerstone finishes the tournament 2-2 overall as they get ready to host the AQ/CU Invitational next weekend for their home opener.
Game One – Cornerstone – 0 #24 Marian – 3 (22-25, 18-25, 18-25)
- After trading points early in set one, Marian would go on a 4-0 run to take a 15-9 lead eight errors by the Golden Eagles.
- CU would later go on a 4-0 run that was capped off by a Kayla Clark service ace to cut the deficit to two, but it would not be enough as the Knights would go on to win set one 25-22.
- Again the two sides traded points early in set two before a 7-1 run by Marian put them ahead 13-7.
- Cornerstone was unable to cut into the deficit as a kill by the Knights Brooke Hustedde would end the set at 25-18.
- Marian scored nine of the last 14 points in set three to again take the set 25-18 and win the match 3-0.
- Bailey Cummings led the team with a season high 13 kills in the match.
Game Two – Cornerstone – 0 #RV Trinity Christian – 3 (21-25, 12-25, 23-25)
- Hannah Dykema got her first start of the season in game two, as the Golden Eagles got off to a fast start behind a Dykema kill and service ace that gave the team at 8-3.
- The Trolls responded with a 5-1 run to tie set one at 12-12.
- The two teams stayed close the remainder of the set, but three straight points by Trinity Christian to end the set gave them the 25-22 win.
- The Golden Eagles could not get anything going in set two falling 25-12.
- The Trolls continued to roll in set three scoring the first six points behind five Cornerstone errors.
- CU responded to take a 14-12 lead behind a big kill from Bailey Cummings.
- Cornerstone held the lead 22-21, but a 3-0 run by the Trolls to win the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.

- Bailey Cummings recorded a season high 13 kills in game one and Alexis Angus recorded 12 in game two.
- Cornerstone committed 43 errors on the day.
- Kayla Clark recorded a team high 54 assists in today's two games.

What's Next?
Cornerstone will return for their home opener on Friday, September 6 as they will host the AQ/CU Invitational. CU will play IU-Kokomo at 4 p.m. and #24 Marian again at 8 p.m.
