Volleyball concludes road trip with loss at LTU

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Golden Eagles continued Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contests on Saturday at Lawrence Tech, who remains undefeated in WHAC play and is receiving votes in national polls. The Blue Devils proved their dominance by winning the match in straight sets, bumping Cornerstone's record down to 7-8 overall, 4-3 WHAC. The Golden Eagles will be back in action next weekend inside Mol Arena for two more WHAC matches. 
 
Game Recap – Cornerstone 0 – #RV Lawrence Tech 3 (25-17, 25-23, 25-18)
  • Three of CU's first four points of the first set came by way of Jackie Stanko kills. 
  • After trading points early in the first, the Blue Devils took the first set by winning the last four points of the frame.
  • Cornerstone hit just .073 in set one.
  • After trailing 20-17 in set two, a pair of kills from Brooke Nicholson and a service ace from Lindsey Barry knotted the score at 20-20. The teams then alternated points up until 23-23 before LTU won the next two points to take a commanding 2-0 lead. 
  • Lawrence Tech led the entirety of the third set, albeit only by a couple points for most of it. The Golden Eagles strung together a three-point streak to cut LTU's lead to 19-16 before the Blue Devils sealed the set and match with a 6-2 run. 

By the Numbers 
  • Stanko and Olivia Keelean led the Golden Eagles with eight kills apiece. 
  • Kayla Clark recorded 25 assists over the three sets
  • Patsy Morris recorded a team-high 16 digs. 
  • Cornerstone committed 17 errors while Lawrence Tech committed 10. 
  • The Golden Eagles recorded 36 kills while The Blue Devils had 33. 

What's Next?
Cornerstone will return home to Mol Arena next weekend for two more WHAC matches. The Golden Eagles will host Lourdes on Friday night before an afternoon contest against Siena Heights on Saturday.
