GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles earned a big home win on Friday night in four sets over WHAC opponent Lourdes. CU won 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 26-24 to improve to .500 on the year at 8-8 overall and 5-3 in conference play. The Gray Wolves drop to the same record as Cornerstone with the loss. Alumni weekend will finish with a match vs. Siena Heights tomorrow at 1 p.m. right back inside Mol Arena.
Game Recap – CU – 3 LU – 1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 26-24)
- Cornerstone got out to an 11-8 lead in set one with back-to-back kills from Alexis Angus and Bailey Cummings.
- After Lourdes battled back, CU won three of the last four points to win set one 25-21 on a Patsy Morris service ace.
- Set two was the Golden Eagles only blunder of the day, as the team only hit .132 after a slow start and fell 25-22.
- The two teams traded points for much of the third set as a Lourdes attacking error had things tied at 19.
- Cornerstone went on a 4-0 run to end the set and win 25-22 that saw kills from Alexis Angus and Bailey Cummings.
- The Golden Eagles had their strongest start in set four, going on a 6-0 run behind two kills from Olivia Keelean to lead 10-4.
- CU continued to dominate, bringing the score to 16-7 behind a Lindsey Barry service ace.
- Lourdes went on a 9-2 run to tie things back up at 24, but in the important moments captain Kayla Clark recorded a service ace to give the Golden Eagles the 26-24 set victory and win the match 3-1.
