DEARBORN, Mich. - The Golden Eagles dropped a tough one against WHAC foe UM-Dearborn, by a score of 69-41. Cornerstone was unable to build on a strong showing against Dearborn earlier in the season, dropping the season series 0-2. The balanced scoring attack of the Wolverines was too much for CU too handle, as they allowed five Dearborn players to score at least 10 points.
Rebekah Crosby led the Golden Eagles with 9 points and 8 rebounds in the losing effort. The loss drops Cornerstone to 3-20 on the year and 1-12 in the WHAC. CU now looks ahead to matchup with a very strong opponent in #13 Indiana Tech. Tip-off is set for 6 pm from Fort Wayne, Indiana and live links will be available at cugoldeneagles.com
Game Flow
- The Golden Eagles led 6-3 midway through the first, but it was all UM-Dearborn from there. The Wolverines responded with a 12-2 run to take a 15-8 lead into the second quarter. Ellen Kresge made her mark early, scoring all 5 of her points in the opening quarter.
- A pair of three pointers from Broghan Gamble and a couple free throws from Shelby Nyboer put CU back on top 16-15 with 5:46 remaining in the quarter. Dearborn went on a quick 6-1 run to go up 21-17. The Wolverines would not give up the lead from there, holding off multiple Golden Eagle charges to take a 28-22 at the half.
- Cornerstone came out of the locker room looking to chip away at the deficit, trimming UM-Dearborn's lead to as little as two points. The Wolverines dug in however, shutting down the Golden Eagle offense and stretching their lead to as many as 13 points. CU was able to draw within 10 as the quarter came to a close but faced an uphill battle trailing 47-37.
- The fourth belonged completely to the Wolverines. Their defense suffocated Cornerstone, holding them to four points for the entire quarter. Dearborn didn't allow Cornerstone to score a single point until Kendall Krupiczewicz scored with 4:51 left in the quarter. A layup from Allyson Richards a minute later would be all of the points for CU in the fourth as Dearborn ran away with it late, winning by a score of 69-41.
